Painting costs in Tbilisi: how to compare a quote

Understand wall area, preparation, labour and paint costs. A worked measurement example and a checklist for comparing painting quotes.

A useful painting quote separates the surface area, preparation, labour and materials. A price per square metre is only comparable when both quotes include the same work. Maliari Pro assesses each project; this guide does not publish an unconfirmed price list.

Measure the surface, not the floor

For a rectangular room, wall area is 2 × (length + width) × height, minus openings excluded from the work. A 4 × 3 m room with a 2.8 m ceiling has 39.2 m² of walls before deductions. Subtracting 3 m² of doors and windows gives 36.2 m². Its ceiling adds 12 m² if included.

Use the paint calculator for an estimate. Measure recesses, beams and irregular walls separately.

Ask for an itemised scope

  • Record wall and ceiling areas separately.
  • Specify whether filling, sanding and priming are included.
  • Name the paint, colour, finish and agreed coating system.
  • Separate material purchasing, labour, protection and clean-up.
  • Agree how unexpected defects and additional work will be approved.

Why similar rooms can cost differently

A sound wall needing a colour change and a wall requiring extensive preparation are different jobs. Several colours, difficult access, occupied rooms and detailed edges also change the scope. Photos help with an initial discussion; concealed defects may need inspection.

What to send for an assessment

Send dimensions, wide and close-up photographs, location, the current coating, desired finish and your available dates. Mention damp or loose paint. Read about surface preparation, then request a project assessment.
